Immense Power & Intense Care in the Psalms

Psalm 68: 32-35

Sing to God, you kingdoms of the earth; sing praise to the Lord. Selah to Him who rides in the ancient, highest heavens. Look, He thunders with His powerful voice! Ascribe power to God. His majesty is over Israel, His power among the clouds. God, You are awe-inspiring in Your sanctuaries. The God of Israel gives power and strength to His people. May God be praised!

Author Derek Kidner, in Psalms 1-72 says “The Psalm … bears witness to its grasp of this reality, this union of IMMENSE POWER and INTENSE CARE, in the God whose majesty is over Israel and his power is in the skies.”

Ascribe power to God …. The God of Israel gives power and strength to His people.

We love the picture of the gentle giant – on the outside full of power and strength, yet on the inside, caring and kind.

Think Fezzie in Princess Bride or Sully in Monsters Inc. 😊

Immense power and intense care – scattered all throughout the Psalms. God’s immense power and His intense care are limitless, deep wells that never run dry.

Psalm 115:3 says the Lord is in heaven and he does whatever He pleases – the things that please Him. Fortunately for us, it pleases Him greatly to lavish His love and care on us! It is almost too much to believe. The God who IS immense power demonstrated His intense care by sending His son to die for us. We NEVER, EVER have to question whether or not we are loved. That same immense power that raised Jesus from the grave is FOR us!

I also pray that you will understand the incredible greatness of God’s power FOR US who believe him. This is the same mighty power that raised Christ from the dead and seated him in the place of honor at God’s right hand in the heavenly realms.” (Ephesians 1:19-20)

Ascribe power to God – stand in awe of His mighty works! The God of Israel gives power and strength to His people. May God be praised!
